The history of Murdoch's Ranch Home and Supply.
A man named John Murdoch, who was a Native Nebraskan, hadwritten an idea about something grand, that he thought would be very successful. He had been in the Ranch home and supply business for 36 years. He had figured that there should be a way to introduce all the good and useful stuff from that world to everyday people, but still maintain the interest of the ranchers. He also figured that if you did something right, even a retail store, it would surely succeed. He had came up with 3 principles :
1. Carry lots of down to earth merchandise.
2. Be a place where the whole family likes to visit.
3. Be a place where the customer is always met with thanks.
In 1994, John Murdoch had took a chance and opened his first Big R Ranch and Home Supply store. The first day that it had opened, there were five emloyees, eighteen big, wide parking spaces out front. By 1996 the store was growing so quickly he had move the whole store. Two years later th store had expanded again. It had expanded to almost 50,000 square feet with literally thousands of first-rate products on the floor. Along the way, more stores were opened in towns like Montrose and Cheyenne, the name was changed in 2004 to Murdoch’s, to help avoid any confusion with other stores out there, Murdoch's is the name of the founder. There is fifteen stores with nearly seven hundred devoted workers. In stock there are about 120,000 pairs of jeans, 11,000 pairs of boots, and 5,000 pairs of gloves. In Murdoch's you can find and purchase feed for horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, rabbits, llamas, dogs, cats, wild birds. Murdoch’s supports 4-H, the Humane Society, and dozens of other charitable organizations, and sponsors fun community events like contests, family activities, and Round Pen Clinics.
